A fluorine-containing polymeric polyformals is described which has the repeating unit O CH2 O CH2 (CF2) sub n CH2 wherein n is an integer of from about 3 to about 6 prepared by reacting trioxane with a diol having the formula HO CH2 (CF2) sub n CH2 OH. These polymeric polyformals are useful directly for impervious coatings on metals and the like.

To investigate procedures whereby schools may achieve maximal results with otherwise normal underachieving pupils with neurologically based language-learning disorders, 100 such subjects were studied over a 2-year period. Fifty experimental subjects remained in regular classes in school and received individualized teaching outside of school hours from specially trained clinicians. Fifty matched control subjects were enrolled in special education classes and did not receive clinical teaching...

This study investigated low-level primary education of rural village schools in Malaya to determine the influence of education in the development of the Malaysian community during the period from the 1890's to 1941. In addition, the concept that the "mass" can develop into an "audience" with specific interests and demands was considered. The four sources of information for the research were official government records in London and Kuala Lumpur, interviews with Malay...

This evaluation of the Syracuse University model for elementary teacher education (SP 002 147-48) is performed by 15 nonSyracuse educators who contributed their reactions (recorded in separate chapters) to specific model components in terms of the latter's strengths, weaknesses, and feasibility. The authors of the first four chapters, in viewing the overall model, pivoted their critical remarks around: the influence of behavioral science on teacher training, the curriculum, generalizability and...

When a random signal is sampled and digitally analyzed, the results of the analysis are estimates of the true parameters or statistics describing the random signal. In many cases there exists difficulty in assigning a level of confidence to such an estimate. That is, the estimate can never be said to equal the true parameter value, but can be said to lie within specified confidence limits, or error bars, with a given probability. The confidence limits are highly dependent upon the...

An experiment was conducted to gain insight into the demarcative function of stress and intonation by testing the effectiveness of these features in resolving structural ambiguity. The responses of native speakers were analyzed both in the production and in the recognition of 68 pairs of potentially ambiguous sentences. Special care was taken to duplicate spontaneous language behavior by providing contextual clues for the identification of the constructions by the recording as well as by the...

A method is described for producing alkali metal dispersions of high purity. The dispersions are prepared by varying the equilibrium solubility of the alkali metal in a suitable organic solvent in the presence of aromatic hydrocarbons. The equilibrium variation is produced by temperature change. The size of the particles is controlled by controlling the rate of temperature change.

Recreational use of wildland is growing rapidly and forms a major portion of the manager's job. About one-third of today's forestry students will be employed by land management agencies or by companies committed to the multiple-use concept. Education, course materials and the supply of forest management graduates have lagged considerably behind needs and the demand for published information on managerial skills and for qualified personnel is increasing. To help meet these needs, this report...

This paper is part of a current dissertation project exploring the relationships between constructs in linguistic theory and pattern of language behavior in aphasic adults. The author feels that linguists have done little enough work in the area of speech pathology yet they have discussed at length the distinction between competence and performance. He believes that the loss or the impairment of language abilities as concomitants of organic lesion in the central nervous system can, when...

This paper discusses a problem in semantic analysis of modern standard Thai. The synchronically polysememic morpheme /cay/ has meanings approximately equivalent to English "heart, mind, spirit" and "breath." A purely descriptive approach to this form would require two separate dictionary entries for /cay/. An examination of the history of /cay/, however, sheds interesting light on the modern sememes. The morpheme is described first using internal reconstruction and then the...

The phonologies of three English-speaking children at approximately two years of age are examined. Two of the analyses are based on published studies; the third is based on observations and recordings made by the author. Summary statements on phonemic inventories and on correspondences with the adult model are presented. For the third case, fairly detailed phonetic and distributional data are also utilized. The paper attempts to draw conclusions about typical difficulties of phonological...
